Tonight on Espn make sure you catch the women's superpipe finals. It should be on sometime in between 9:30 and 11:30 pm. Riders Torah Bright, Gretchen Bleiler, Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, and some others are sure to tear up the snowflakes. I'm excited to see Torah, even though she won't be riding a board I designed this year.

Then on Saturday in between 3-6pm on ABC be sure to check out the women's slopestyle finals. They haven't posted who the finalist are that will be competing in that but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Alexis Waite, Erin Comstock, Tara Dakides, and Kjersti Buaas.

So I know, you're like what happened to snowflakes and cupcakes, nothing is ever posted. Well I apologize sincerely, but I'm super swamped with finishing up my second to last semester of grad school. But I promise, I will get to updating this more frequently, very soon! In the meantime, here is an incredibly cute video the Roxy girls put together. Look how cute this flash drive is! ACP-EP has taken some of the most popular snowboard graphics and applied them to their snowboard shaped flash drives. I have always loved the above burton g-twin graphic designed by National Forest and now I can have my own mini version!

volcom beaners

Volcom just updated their website with pics of their whole 07/08 Snow Line. I remember not being super excited about it when I saw it at the trade show, but there are some great cuts, awesome patterns, and fun detailing. However, I really love their snow accessories. Especially their beanies! Fun little woven patterns and vintage inspired styles. I can't wait to cover up my frizzy hair days with these cute little wintery hats!

If you're like me, once summer is over, you say "ok, it can snow now!" Well now it [kind of] can! Check out Popular Front's Snow Days and you can design your very own snowflake. You use virtual scissors and cut shapes and designs out of a piece of paper. You can then watch your snowflake fall gracefully from the sky along with other frosty creations.

2 awesome all girl snowboard movies will be hitting the shelves this fall. The first is Float, an all female snowboard film, featuring riders Chanelle Sladics, Jamie Anderson, and Izzy Lalive. The Float film projects are rider driven and produced. They focus on documenting the lifestyle and environment surrounding the ladies' snowboarding as well as the level of women's riding today. The film incorporates travel sections to remote and rural locays world wide as well as revisits some legendary women that have paved the way for what female riding is today. It's shot entirely on 16mm and HDV so the imagery will be beautiful! Premiers are happening on September 7th at the ASR tradeshow in San Diego and November 17th in Seattle. Check out a ton of teasers at Float's website and add them to your friend's list to get the latest info on its release!

The other highly anticipated all girl snowboard film is the debut release from Runway Films called La La Land. This movie features some of my favorite riders, Alexis Waite, Erin Comstock, and Tara Dakides. Runway has been working for the past two years on La La Land filming in places like Japan, Whistler, and Salt Lake City. Not only will it showcase the riding from the best female shredders around, but also a glimpse into their every day lives. You can check out the teaser here.

Both films, I'm sure, will be absolutely amazing! Both focus on a variety of different riders who have very different riding styles. I'm so excited for the release of both films. Be sure to check them out!

Wishing for Snow: Roxy's Labor of Love

It's always about mid-August when I start getting the itch for snow. So it couldn't be better timing for Roxy to release the trailer for their first ever snow film. The movie is still scheduled for release this fall and features some very sweet riding by some of my favorite girls; Erin Comstock, Alexis Waite, Kjersti Buaas, and Torah Bright. The girls have been working super hard on it and I'm sure it's going to be one awesome movie! So so so excited for this one!

TWSnow September Issue

When I got the September Issue of Transworld Snowboarding out of my mailbox today I could not stop shaking. This was either because girlie rider, Hana Beaman, was on the cover, or because I drank one too many cups of coffee. Either way, I was still super excited. Everything in this issue is super fresh: from their brand new cover logo to the 'tiny type' in the Variables section.

I sat down to lunch with my cup of lo mein and checked it out cover to back cover and I must say that TWS is sending out lots of girlie love. One great feature is "Golden Girls" written by writer Julia Milan. Julia spent most of her winter with Leanne Pelosi, photographer Christy Chaloux, and the Runway Films crew. She wrote an awesome article that goes into great detail about her adventures in the backcountry of Whistler and Central B.C., Canada.

Transworld also profiles the lovely Amber Stackhouse in 'What the Pros are Rockin' with a full page photo of her riding the backcountry of Japan on Roxy's Envi. They also have shots of 3 rad reader girlies in the Mail section. I won't spoil the rest of it for ya, so run out now and pick up your own copy of the female packed TWSnowboarding September issue.

Gnu B-Nice 07/08

One of my nominations for favorite board graphic of the year is Gnu's B-Nice Series designed by the lovely Fumi Watanabe. As the Gnu catalog says... "Fumi Is A Designer, Painter, Art Director, Trend Researcher, Illustrator And Conceptual Thinker. By Day Fumi Is Busy Creating The Brand Look For Seattle's Coffee Giant: Starbucks, And By Night She Is Usually Found Listening To Japanese Pop, Drawing And Watering Her Orchids."

I absolutely love Fumi's work. Not only did she design my favorite Starbucks packaging, but now she's designed one of my most favorite board graphics. Fumi combines beautiful organic shapes and color to create amazing visual textures. She used her personal art pieces as inspiration for this board graphic. You can check more of her Japanese inspired collection here. Fumi’s intricate artistic process begins with wood-block prints on Japanese silk tissue and Japanese paper. Using colors and patterns inspired by nature, the hand-cut prints are layered in collage on wood panel. As Fumi speaks about her influences for this collection, she states, “A deer is a symbolism for a messenger of spirits in Japanese culture. The current collection of work is inspired from the spiritual landscape juxtaposed with simple observation of life. Like the surface of water, reflecting both the branches above and the ripples obscuring the dark rocks below, my work is about both what is seen and what is unseen. These works were created during a time of transformation, capturing the beauty and feeling that otherwise last only for the moment."

The Gnu B-Nice board is one of Barrett Christy's pro models. It's basically Gnu's Carbon High Bean for the ladies. It is a perfect all mountain freestyle/freeride board. It's for all women; from entry level riders to crazy rippers who want to look at the whole mountain as their park. It has torsion capped construction which Barrett really likes. This gives you better edge to edge response. It's a twin tip shape, which i have found to be very important when you're making turns and riding the whole mountain. It also has really sweet flex which is awesome when you're riding because it won't toss you around like some of the stiffer boards. This board also placed Top 10 in Future Snowboarding Magazine's Board Test. This beauty should be available in shops and online starting in mid-August.
